Houston Methodist Plastic Surgery Division
As a plastic surgery resident, we get minimal exposure to skin care health. Jackie at ZO changed this. Jackie, the ZO representative, throughout the course of my training, have been present, active and involved in skin care education. With the introduction of the resident skin care lecture series, we were exposed to organized courses on skin anatomy and function of the entire ZO skin care line. Residents from the Houston and Galveston area attended along with faculty and ancillary staff. Organized by Jackie Castaneda in December of 2014, this program has provided residents with an essential understanding of how skin care is necessary within the field of plastic surgery. We, as residents, would not have otherwise had this exposure in our training.
Jackie Castaneda has been available, affable and able throughout, not only the lecture series, but throughout my entire residency, which is imperative in the surgical field. She is committed to the ZO brand and is a perfect example of what ZO stands for. Now that I have completed residency and move forward into private practice, Jackie remains involved. I see the importance of having a strong skin care presence in plastic surgery and Jackie is still involved and maintains an active role as ZO skin care transitions into my private practice office. I am deeply appreciative for the education I have received from Jackie as well as the high-quality staff that stand behind its name.
The list of accomplishments that Jackie has achieved is extensive – and the list is true. What may not be as clear on paper (although it is immediately evident in real life) is what an incredible person Jackie is. She is enthusiastic, positive and a problem solver. Jackie does not just address the problem, she tackles it, solves it and makes it a new asset. She has an entrepreneurial spirit and a compassionate soul, which makes her a great leader. She is always pushing herself to the next level, which is why she went back to school to acquire her MBA. Although I have always believed that a solid understanding of skin care and aging is an integral part of a Plastic surgery education, it is certainly an area which is neglected in our formal training. I was introduced to Jackie early on in residency in 2014.
It was only through the dedication of Jackie as well as a few dedicated plastic surgeons that I was able to be repeatedly exposed to skin care. The consistent education I received through lectures series as well as patient demonstration sessions were invaluable in my 6 years of residency, and it is only because of that exposure that I now feel comfortable discussing aging as well as aesthetics with my patients as a plastic surgeon in private practice.
I have followed Jackie for several years. I was in a 6mo period of being in between managers and I would find my self looking to her post every morning for inspiration and ideas. I reached out to a friend & former coworker that works for ZO Skin Health. She raved about working for Jackie as well as for ZO! Though I was happy and content with my job I asked her to let me know if Houston was ever looking for someone. I have known Jackie Castaneda for at least 20 years now. We met in college and by chance, ended up in the same professional industry. She has always been someone that I looked up to. If there was a goal in her mind, she was always one to give it 100%. She has never had any kind of fear in reaching out for the big things in life.
